Expertise
Alan currently is a lead instructor for the U.S. State Department's Anti-terrorism Assistance program, instructing senior police officials in foreign countries on crisis management and how governments can work together with the private sector in collaborating and sharing information. He is an expert on analyzing threat information and developing mitigation measures to defeat threats. He is a well known speaker for both government and private organizations and has spoken annually for the past twelve years to the Joint Chief's of Staff Level IV Anti-terrorism conference.
Background
- Alan retired from Marriott International in 2020 as the Vice President of Global Safety and Security after 35 years. During his time with Marriott, he developed a world renowned crisis management program and became a leading voice for security in the hospitality industry. In the early years of his career, he became active with the U.S. State Department's Overseas Security Advisory Council, OSAC, serving as a committee chair and continuing his participation even until today. He collaborated with other Fortune 500 security executives as a member of ISMA - the International Security Management Association, becoming president of the organization. He formed the Hotel Security Working Group, an organization of hotel security executives from all of the leading hotel companies. Alan was a guest at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Jakarta, Indonesia when it was attacked by terrorists in 2009 and led the crisis response to the attack.
